“northern love”
oh, my northern love
the days are long without you
time moves by so slow
i don’t know what i’d do
if you were with me, wherever i would go
oh, my northern love
no matter what i say
i can’t get you to leave
i just want you closer
want to wake up with you next to me
oh, my northern love
“lighthouse”
the fog gets thicker
the waves grow tall
and i am on my own
seconds lost by the hour
i’m a losing soul
be my lighthouse and guide me home
i don’t know where to go
be my lighthouse, guide me home
i can’t die here alone
discontentment raised my sails
and had me follow the stars
it forced the rudder
and grabbed the wheel
a declaration of war
be my lighthouse and guide me home
i don’t know where to go
be my lighthouse, guide me home
i can’t die here alone
take this night
be my lighthouse and guide me home
i don’t know where to go
be my lighthouse, guide me home
i can’t die here alone
“home”
i got my clothes put away
got my shirts hung up
i got the dishes clean
got my coffee mug
i’d done everything
that you’re supposed to do
the one thing missing
was me with you
i lit the pilot light
i filled up the fridge
i turned down my sheets
because i finally made my bed
i’d done everything
that you’re supposed to do
the one thing missing
was me with you
i never knew home
i never knew my home
i never knew home
til i knew you
now the floor’s a mess
makeup everywhere
there’s knitting yarn
and a drain filled with hair
that’s fine with me
i don’t care
because all those things
tell me you’re still there
i never found home
i never found my home
i never found home
til i found you
and i tried everything
to make this house a home
i put up photographs
taken long ago
i have on display
things i hold so dear
but it never felt right
til you were here
i never knew home
i never knew my home
i never knew home
til i knew you
so, i’m in a band called the greener grass with steph. about a year ago we wrote an original christmas song called “christmas in LA”. since it’s that time of year again, i thought i’d share the song. enjoy.
“christmas in LA”
the forecast calls for sunny days
children run around and play
in shorts and shirts
it’s christmas
the tall palms swing and sway
wrapped with lights, as if to say
it’s christmas
it’s too hot for christmas
but we’ll drink hot cocoa anyway
even though it doesn’t feel like it
it’s still christmas in LA
the crackling fire and the crunch of snow
can’t be found around my home
but it’s christmas
it’s still christmas
it’s too hot for christmas
but we’ll drink hot cocoa anyway
even though it doesn’t feel like it
it’s still christmas in LA
“everything’s alright”
you remind me
of who i once was
cut me down with
the words from your tongue
see right through me
with piercing eyes
start all over
say your goodbyes
reasons why i shouldn’t care
are the reasons why i do
i should let you go
but I have to be with you
so, if you’re leaving
i’ll go with you tonight
pack a suitcase
and drive into the night
forget my past
and leave it all behind
cause when i’m with you
everything’s alright
when i’m with you
everything’s alright
where there’s shelter
we can build a home
turn out the lights
and disconnect the phones
start a family
and watch the kids grow old
remember when it started
on the open road
so, if you’re leaving
go with me tonight
pack your suitcase
let’s drive into the night
forget your past
leave it all behind
cause when i’m with you
everything’s alright
when i’m with you
everything’s alright
pack a bag and don’t look back
meet me in the car
